Group Aeroplan buys into AeroMexico
Leading Canadian loyalty scheme Groupe Aeroplan Inc has bought a stake in AeroMexicos Club Premier and will invest an initial sum of $22 million into the frequent flyer program. Under the terms of the agreement Groupe Aeroplan will have proportional representation on Club Premier’s Board of Directors, as well as approval rights in relation to certain significant business matters The partnership aims to build, grow and transform the Club Premier program and its capabilities into a world class coalition loyalty program.
MasterCard offers health insurance to appeal to unbanked
Prepaid MasterCard is looking to further appeal to the unbanked population by offering its PR1MACARD cardholders additional health insurance covering accidental death and hospital stays.
Singapore’s DBS partners with JCB
JCB International (JCBI), the overseas arm of Japan’s biggest payment brand and credit card issuer, is expanding its card acceptance in Hong Kong and Macau through a partnership deal with Singaporean bank DBS. Under the agreement DBS will obtain the merchant acquiring services of JCBI cards in the markets, both special administrative regions of China, by permitting JCBI card acceptance across its merchant network. Charity woodland credit card raised £70k
A credit card issued by UK-based Co-operative Bank in connection with the Woodland Trust has raised more than £70,000 for the charity since its inception in 2007. The credit card has also enabled the conservation society to plant more than 2,500 trees in the 1,000 acres of woodland sites that in its care – one tree for each card that is issued. The card features a mechanism where £15 is donated by the Co-operative when a card is issued, which pays for a sapling to be planted in one of the Trust’s sites
Ong to head up P2P for MasterCard in APMEA
Andrew Ong has been named head of person-to-person payments (P2P) at MasterCard Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APMEA) as it looks to drive innovation in the $233 billion P2P transfer market. Based in Singapore, Ong, previously managing director of North Asia at Western Union, will be a key figure in advancing payment services through the Mastercards MoneySend platform
CUP ups acceptance in four Asian countries
As the number of mainland Chinese tourists travelling in and around Asia continues to rise, payment processing provider Global Payments Asia-Pacific has extended China UnionPay (CUP) card acceptance services across a host of Asian markets. The extended service allows Chinese tourists to pay for goods and services with their CUP cards at merchants served by Global Payments in Brunei, the Maldives, the Phillipines and Sri Lanka. China is contributing significantly to outbound tourism in many Asian destinations and our merchants in those markets can now welcome more mainland Chinese tourists to their establishments by accepting CUP card payments, said Ian Courtnage, president of Global Payments Asia-Pacific.
