Prepaid MasterCard is looking to further
appeal to the unbanked population by offering its PR1MACARD
cardholders additional health insurance covering accidental death
and hospital stays.
Through the Chubb Group of Insurance
Companies, all PR1MACARD cardholders will automatically be insured
for up to $25,000 against accidental loss of life, limb, sight,
speech or hearing. They will also receive insurance benefits
that will cover hospitalisation stays due to an accident for up to
14 days, subject to a per day maximum.

The PR1MACARD is issued by electronic banking
services provider Palm Desert National Bank and distributed by
prepaid card programmer Branded Marketing LLC.
“In addition to lacking traditional banking
relationships, unbanked consumers have typically not had easy
access to affordable everyday services, including health insurance
benefits and services that enable them to stay connected to their
loved ones,” said Anthony Uva, chief marketing officer, Branded
Marketing. “By partnering with Chubb to offer cardholders automatic
insurance benefits at no additional cost to them, we are able to
further address the unique financial issues faced by these
hard-working consumers and continue to build on the benefits they
receive with the PR1MACARD.”
The PR1MACARD offers cardholders ATM access
and signature-based purchasing, and enables them to pay bills and
earn rewards that are relevant to them. A free international and
domestic long distance calling service is associated with every
active cardholder’s account. PR1MACARD also provides a discount
prescription drug program that gives 15 percent to 40 percent off
brand name or generic prescription drugs at any US pharmacy.
