Turkmenistan has started rolling out the new MasterCard payment system for improving banking operations and introducing the international payment system in the country.

The MasterCard payment system is linked with around 22,000 financial institutions from 210 countries, reported Turkmenistan.ru.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Annamukhammet Gochyev, the introduction of the new system will facilitate the process of payments and electronic banking services for the citizens of Turkmenistan and its visitors.

Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed on the importance of introduction of international payment services, including cashless payments, which are an integral part of the financial infrastructure of the market economy.

The move by the country is to support a large number of foreign sports delegates and journalists, who will visit the country during the V Asian Games to be hosted in Ashgabat in 2017.
