Digital payment platform Centrapay has entered into a three-year agreement with epay New Zealand to enable users to store digital versions of epay Gift Station gift cards.
Users can store the cards in their Sylo Smart Wallet in their mobile device and make transactions by scanning a QR code on Windcave and Verifone payment terminals.

At the same time, they can use the Sylo app to digitally transfer the gift cards.
Users can view details such as balance and expiry date of the gift cards in their digital wallet on mobile phone.
Epay New Zealand country manager Roger Smith said: “Gift Station customers will be able to easily add their gift card to a digital wallet on their mobile and make payments using a QR code on Windcave and Verifone payment terminals across New Zealand.
“We see this as part of a growing shift from using physical cards and touching EFTPOS devices to a fully contactless experience.”

By GlobalDataAccording to Centrapay, the tie-up will help sort out the most common problems linked to gift cards, namely lost, left at home, expiring, and unknown balance.

Earlier this month, Amatil X, the corporate venturing platform of Coca-Cola Amatil, acquired a minority stake in Centrapay.
Gift card developments in 2020
Recently, technology giant Apple introduced a single gift card that enables users to purchase any of its products both physical and digital items.
In June, UK-based payments provider SumUp partnered with Google to enable merchants using Google My Business to add gift cards directly to their profile.
In May, Blackhawk Network’s subsidiary One4all tapped Dejamobile to support digital gift card payments.
In March, payment technology provider Fattmerchant partnered with Gift Up – a software-based company that streamlines and automates the sale of online gift cards.
In February, payments technology firm InComm launched its gift cards in France and Germany in partnership with Roblox.
In the same month, InComm also collaborated with retailer Poundland and transaction processing technology firm Eezi on gift card programme.
