UnionPay International has signed a cooperation agreement with Westpac to allow acceptance of UnionPay cards for all merchants of the bank.

The move will take effect from the end of this year to the beginning of the next year.

The two parties had initially signed a cooperation deal in April 2014 and since then improved the acceptance scope of UnionPay in Australia, Fiji, and other islands. The new deal deepens this existing cooperation.

Under the latest deal, cardholders in Fiji will be able to withdraw cash in Fijian dollar at Westpac and Bank South Pacific ATMs that covers 70% of the local ATMs.

Cardholders can also use UnionPay cards to pay at Bank South Pacific merchants, which include local holiday villages, restaurants and duty-free stores.
