Digital payments provider Stripe has launched its own point-of-sale (PoS) terminal that will enable online businesses to accept in-person payments.

The Stripe PoS terminal includes three key parts. These include card readers built by Stripe partners, SDKs and APIs that can be utilised by developers to build a customised checkout experience, and software for managing connected devices from the Stripe dashboard.

Furthermore, with Stripe PoS Terminal, the company is promising to bring the same ease of use and security to in-person payments thanks to the pre-certified card readers.

“Integrating payments with a point of sale system usually requires complex integrations that provide little flexibility. Stripe Terminal SDKs provide a unified interface to pre-certified card readers. Customise every user-facing aspect of the point of sale using a modern developer platform,” the payments firm said in a blog post.

The new Stripe PoS terminal is also EMV Levels 1,2 and 3 pre-certified, which Stripe said, saves the time for gaining certification.

US companies can now request to join for the terminal package. The terminal is currently being used by online retailers including Warby Parker and Glossier, and software platforms such as Mindbody, Zenoti, atVenu, and Universe.
