Square, a San Francisco-based merchant services aggregator and mobile payments company, and AIDS organisation (RED) have teamed up to launch a new card reader in the US, to promote awareness of the epidemic AIDS with every credit card swipe.
The new special edition SQUA(RED) Reader has been designed to allow local sellers and customers to donate directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS from their digital receipts.
Local businesses across the US, including Valerie Confections in Los Angeles, King of Pops in Atlanta, and more than 30 sellers at Artists & Fleas in New York City, will now use SQUA(RED) Reader to allow their customers to fight against AIDS.
Around 97.25% of the $10 donation amount has been estimated to represent more than 24 days of medication for an HIV patient in Africa.
Square CEO, Jack Dorsey, said: "Square already helps millions of local sellers run and grow their business, and now with SQUA(RED) Reader, we’re empowering them to raise awareness for an important cause and help save lives in the process."
(RED) CEO, Deborah Dugan, added: "With the new SQUA(RED) Reader, the pioneering team at Square has created a beautiful (RED) product that allows small businesses everywhere to turn their transactions into an AIDS fighting machine."
