Skrill may try and make its payments app more useful to customers and merchants by creating its own version of the Amazon Market Place, putting all merchants that accept the mobile wallet in one place.

Mobile payments have struggled to attract a significant portion of the payments partly due to their sparse merchant adoption.
Many mobile wallets have scaled back or switched off their apps completely in recent months including the Square mobile wallet, the Google Wallet and the UK’s O2 wallet, due to low customer adoption.

Mark Carter, country head for the Philippines and VP for mobile at Skrill, told EPI that Skrill are thinking about making a move to offering customers an app that brings together users payments options.

Skrill recently made headlines when it announced that Weve CEO David Sears was jumping ship to join Skrill as group chief commercial officer. In this newly-created position he will oversee all commercial operations across the Skrill Group, comprising Skrill, paysafecard and payolution.

Sear abruptly left Weve, the joint venture between UK mobile network operators, EE, Telefonica UK (O2) and Vodafone UK, last month. He had been in the post for just over a year.

Earlier in the year Skrill integrated with paysafecard to allow its customers use paysafecard to top up their Skrill Digital Wallets.
According to Skrill, the integration will enable Skrill Digital Wallet users to add funds to their wallets without the use of a credit card or bank account.

Once funds are uploaded through paysafecard, customers can use them with any merchant that accepts Skrill payments, or to transfer money to other Skrill Digital Wallet holders.

Skrill digital wallet vice president, Stuart Gregory, said: "In a world where digital transactions continue to grow, the Skrill and paysafecard integration provides a level playing field that enables those without bank accounts to still benefit from being able to make payments via the Internet."
