Qatar National Bank (QNB) and telco Qtel are
going to launch an NFC payments service in Qatar based on
MasterCard’s PayPass and Oberthur Technologies’ payments
application.

The service will be available as either a SIM
card with NFC capability, or a PayPass sticker that can be attached
to the mobile phone.

Users of the service will be able to spend up
to QR100 ($27.50) per day and will be linked to a MasterCard credit
card account.

Oberthur Technologies already has a deal with
QNB in place to provide chip personalisation services. It has now
developed the payments applications for the Qtel NFC-enabled SIM
card and the MasterCard PayPass sticker, which will be free of
charge to QNB and Qtel customers.
