Passengers of the airways firm from a total of 73 countries can now use UnionPay’s secure payment option to book tickets for more than 150 destinations.

According to UnionPay, the extended deal brings the acceptance of its cards on Qatar Airways’ global network to 100%.

Qatar Airways senior vice-president of Asia Pacific, Marwan Koleilat said: “The expansion of our agreement with UnionPay will provide even more customers the opportunity to use UnionPay as their preferred payment option when booking their tickets online, ensuring a convenient and hassle-free booking experience.”

Under the terms of the latest agreement, the firms plan to work on sales and marketing initiatives. They also intend to develop a new and exclusive co-branded card.

UnionPay International vice-president Larry Wang said: “Our expanded agreement with Qatar Airways will increase UnionPay card acceptance rate in the airline industry, offering better card-using experiences to UnionPay cardholders outside mainland China.
