Pakistan-based MCB Bank has launched the first
chip-based EMV debit card by Visa in the country.

The bank said it aims to increase the use of
cards at the point of sale and that customer card use at ATMs and
POS were already worth PKR2bn and PKR100m respectively.

Ali Mubashir Kazmi, group head consumer
banking, MCB Bank, said:

“It will allow our customers to pay securely
and conveniently for every type of purchase.”

“Being the first bank in Pakistan to launch
Visa Debit EMV chip card in the market is a great achievement for
the MCB and a milestone for all its Visa cardholders,” said Amer
Pasha, Country Manager for Visa Pakistan and Afghanistan.

“EMV chip technology presents further
security, reliability and convenience for making purchases
throughout the country while traveling,” he added.
