The OTP Bank and telecom-backed Hungarian Mobile Wallet Association are reportedly gearing up for a full-scale commercial launch of their NFC-based m-payment service, following a year-long successful pilot.

Hungarian Mobile Wallet Association expects that approximately 400.000 people will use smartphones for NFC payments.

During the 12-month test period, the active ‘MobilTárca’ users made 41,000 payments and more than 4,000 loyalty point transactions. Users spent more than €385,000 across more than 20 nations.

Hungarian Mobile Wallet Association president Gábor Pukler said, "We launched the MobilTárca pilot program exactly one year ago, and currently we are working with all our strengths on the commercial roll out."

He further said that based on the results of the pilot and the research conducted in three phases during the test period, the Association estimates that around 350-400 000 people would be open for the use of the service in the first round.

In July 2013, the MobilTárca pilot program was launched in collaboration with the Hungarian Mobile Wallet Association, in which the participant could use five services in the wallet, including OTP Bank’s MasterCard Mobile PayPass payment card, SuperShop’s NFC loyalty card, a sports facility access card, event tickets provided by InterTicket, employee ID card and a public transport card for the city of Szolnok in a limited edition.
