The sale of fast-food is set to get faster as
McDonalds commits to the roll-out of contactless technology across
all its 1,200 UK restaurants by the end of this summer.

It is one of the largest roll-outs of the
technology seen in UK and may serve to bring contactless to the
masses. Using Visa’s payWave contactless solution, customers of the
fast-food chain will now be able pay for their meal by touching
their card on a wireless reader.

“We were the first major quick service
restaurant to launch payment by cards and we’re delighted to be
leading the way again with the rollout of contactless payment
technology,” said Jill McDonald, president and CEO of McDonald.

“Convenient and quick, the technology is the
perfect match for McDonald’s and we look forward to offering it in
all of our restaurants by this summer.”

McDonalds’ dive into contactless in the UK
comes after the launch of the technology in Australia in November
2010.
