Mastercard to expand Dublin workforce by 1,500

Mastercard is set to hire 1,500 employees in Dublin over the next three to five years by launching a new campus in Leopardstown.

Plans are on to hire software engineers and developers with expertise in artificial intelligence, cyber security, and blockchain.

In 2008, Mastercard launched its first Dublin outpost, which is now home to its European technology hub.

The Dublin outpost also serves as the global base of Mastercard Labs – the firm’s research and development arm.

At launch, the Dublin location had an employee headcount of 36, a number that has currently increased to more than 650.

Mastercard president of Operations and Technology Ed McLaughlin said: “Our Dublin Tech Hub is an innovation engine for our company across Europe and beyond, and we’re delighted to be expanding our technology footprint in the city.

“Our new campus will help us continue to attract the best and brightest tech talent, so that we stay on the forefront of emerging tech trends and are well positioned to forge the future of digital commerce across the globe.”

IDA Ireland CEO Martin Shanahan believes that the move makes Ireland a key location in Mastercard’s global operations.

Shanahan stated: “This substantial investment and build out of Mastercard’s operations in Dublin is a further strong endorsement of Ireland’s standing in International Technology Services and its offering to companies considering locating here.”
