Marqeta joins Mastercard’s Fintech Express programme

By Mohamed Dabo

Global card issuing platform Marqeta has been selected by Mastercard to join its Fintech Express programme.

Mastercard and Marqeta say they will work together “to co-innovate in the field of banking technology in Europe and across the world”.

Collaborating in the Fintech Express programme will allow the two companies to work closely on future innovations, with an emphasis on expanding and launching more Fintech programmes together.

Joining the Mastercard Fintech Express programme will also give Marqeta the opportunity to engage with Mastercard’s extensive network thus helping it scale in Europe and across the globe.

“The partner of choice for leading fintechs across Europe”

Jason Lane, executive vice president of Market Development Europe at Mastercard said:

“We are delighted to welcome Marqeta into the Mastercard Fintech Express programme. Marqeta is already an invaluable player in the fintech space and a global partner to us.

“As the partner of choice for leading fintechs across Europe, our focus is to propel our fintech partners towards greater success and help them scale at speed.”

“It’s critical that these companies have a fast and efficient route to market”

Ian Johnson, SVP, managing director of Marqeta Europe added:

We are very excited about being an integral part of the Mastercard Fintech Express programme. Card innovation continues to flourish and it’s critical that these companies have a fast and efficient route to market which the Fintech Express programme will undoubtedly enable.”

The Mastercard Fintech Express Programme falls under the umbrella of Mastercard Accelerate – Mastercard’s overarching fintech platform that gives start-ups and emerging brands support and assistance for every stage of their growth and transformation, from market entry to global expansion.

Mastercard Accelerate is comprised of four main programmes: Fintech Express, Start Path, Engage and Developers.

Mastercard has also made a financial investment in Marqeta

With its open API, the Marqeta platform is designed for businesses who want a simple and tailored way of managing payment programs so that they can create world-class experiences and power new modes of commerce.

In Q4 2020, Marqeta and Mastercard announced the expansion of their strategic global partnership with the aim to expand into new geographies, open access to new products, and launch additional card programs together.

As part of this partnership, Mastercard has also made a financial investment in Marqeta.
