Indian smartcard manufacturer M-Tech Innovations has partnered with biometric firm Fingerprint Cards to roll out contactless biometric payment cards in the country.

Incorporating Fingerprints’ T-Shape module that is part of the FPC1300-series, the card supports ultra-low power usage, noted the biometric firm.

M-Tech CEO V. M. Gandhi said: “We selected the biometric solution from Fingerprints since they have the leading technology in the market, with proven biometric performance and the lowest power consumption, which is of the highest importance for contactless biometric cards.

“Introducing biometric payment cards will offer great benefits for both banks, merchants and consumers as contactless payments in India is growing fast.”

Fingerprint Cards further said that the card is “tailored to be integrated” in payment cards leveraging standard automated manufacturing processes.

The latest partnership comes amid the rising significance of contactless and digital payments, especially amid the pandemic where consumers are preferring touch-free modes for transactions.
