JCB International (JCBI), a Japan-based credit
card issuer, has teamed up with the German Banking Industry
Committee (GBIC) to launch a co-branded card in Germany.

JCBI, the subsidiary of JCB, will be launching
the card in conjunction with the German girocard in 2012.

Girocard is a debit card system operated by
GBIC.

Kimihisa Imada, deputy president of JCBI
said:

“We expect to expand the issuance of JCB and
girocard co-badged cards in the near future with girocard and other
partners in Europe and to expand merchant acceptance in
parallel.”

The GBIC consists of the National
Association of German
Cooperative Banks, the Association of German Banks, the Association of
German Public Banks, the
German Savings Banks
Association, and the Association of German Pfandbrief.
