Japan’s JCB International (JCBI) has partnered with EVO payments to allow JCB payment acceptance across the UK and Ireland.

The new expansion will increase JCB acceptance at small-to-medium sized businesses, particularly merchants utilising integrated payments. It will also grant JCB additional access to independent software vendors (ISV) who are active in the UK.

Darren Wilson, President International, EVO Payments, Inc., said: “Our partnership with JCB will allow the 130 million JCB card members to make payments at all EVO merchant sites across the UK and Ireland that are part of the JCB network.

“Expanding our card acceptance capabilities so that travellers from Asia can easily make card payments is an important enhancement to our merchant proposition.”

The partnership comes after a successful trial in Poland in 2017 when JCB acceptance was enabled for existing EVO merchants.

Mr. Tsuyoshi Notani, Managing Director, JCB International (Europe) Ltd., said: “JCB’s partnership with EVO Payments demonstrates our ongoing work to establish efficient acceptance across both the UK and Ireland and in Europe more widely.

“Our efforts to widen acceptance come about as JCB card membership grows in new countries from which more people are visiting Europe.”

According to recent reports, the amount JCB cardholders spent in Europe increased by 63% between 2017 and 2018.  It also reported an overall 45% global growth in total annual sales volumes in the past four years.

In June, JCB also formed an alliance with French banking group Arkea to boost card acceptance network in the country.

JCBI is the international subsidiary of Japanese credit card company JCB Co., who in July launched a co-branded international credit card.

The card, known as RuPay, was produced in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Customers are able to use it at overseas JCB card accepting points.
