The collaboration links Mercari ID and Docomo d Account enabling users to receive d Points for purchases on Mercari.

The tie-up also includes Mercari subsidiary Merpay as a partner.

The partners plan to enable the users of Merpay and Docomo’s d Barai mobile payment service utilise their balances and points interchangeably. The service is slated to begin later this year.

Enabling the consumers to shop at each other’s partner merchant locations and exploring the development of fintech and promotional products jointly are also under consideration.

As part of the partnership, Mercari sellers may also gain access to Docomo shops for packing and shipping operations.

The new partnership builds on Mercari and Docomo’s existing co-operation that began nearly five years ago. In April 2015, the two companies partnered to allow Docomo users pay for their Mercari purchases via monthly phone bills.

Launched in July 2013, Mercari is a marketplace app that allows users to purchase and sell new and used items. It has nearly 14.5 million monthly users.

The company launched Merpay within the Mercari app in February 2019. With more than six million users, the mobile payment platform is accepted at 1.7 million merchants and e-commerce sites in Japan.

On the other hand, Docomo has a subscriber base of around 73 million.
