Polish banker ITCARD has collaborated with Hitachi Europe to introduce first-of-its-kind biometric ATM shared network called Planet Cash in Poland, which is also believed to be Europe’s first.

The company is keen to establish a network of nearly 2000 biometric ATMs that will feature finger vein technology by the end of 2014.

The users would not need any cards to use these ATMs, rather they can operate the machines by verifying finger prints to withdraw cash or perfoming other operations such as balance check, and immediate money transfer.

Planet Cash will launch 1500 ATMs from Wincor Nixdorf and Diebold in addition to existing 500 odd locations, to have a minimum of 1730 vendors during the year. The move will increase the bank’s ATM market share to 11% in Poland, reported Planet Biometrics.

Planet Cash ATMs are expected to be opened at various locations including retail chains such as Biedronka, Carrefour and Intermarché, alongside existing machines at a number of banks.
