ING and KBC have joined forces to launch a new integrated payment and loyalty solution in Belgium, which will combine ING’s payment app Payconiq with loyalty platforms Qustomer and KBC’s CityLife.

Last year, ING tested payment app Payconiq and also acquired loyalty platform Qustomer, while KBC helped initiate CityLife, a loyalty platform with a dual-saving option, allowing buyers to save both for themselves and for a charitable cause. KBC also launched its own mobile payment solution in the CityLife platform.

With Payconiq, customers can make payments online and transfer money to friends and family, "regardless of their bank".

All this expertise has now been merged into one integrated solution for consumers and retailers, resulting in a platform that is already used by over a million Qustomer, CityLife and Payconiq consumers and 6,500 retailers, ING said in a statement.

ING and KBC expect to expand this network over the coming months.

Later this year, CityLife and Qustomer will introduce a new loyalty platform with the name, Payconiq, ING added.

KBC Belgium CEO Daniel Falque said: "The importance of mobile payments, both online and in-store, is growing exponentially. The cooperation between CityLife, Qustomer and Payconiq creates a unique, strong platform which builds on that trend and the tradition of cooperation in the Belgian financial sector. That means we can offer our traders and consumers the best possible solutions."

ING Belgium CEO Rik Vandenberghe said: "We offer our customers easy-to-use, relevant tools that enable them to keep one step ahead in life and business. The fantastic customer feedback about both Payconiq and Qustomer strengthens our conviction that as a bank we constantly have to innovate. And as far as innovation is concerned, we strongly believe in the power of cooperation. This cooperation helps us introduce outstanding digital services in Belgium."
