Netherlands-based bank ING has joined hands with Equens, a pan-European payment processor, to offer the e-Mandate service for its corporate customers.

Using the secure digital direct debit e-Mandate service, customers of businesses and government agencies will be able to pay for products and services.

In addition, the service will allow organisations to offer payment by direct debit through their websites. It will also allow businesses to enhance the efficiency of their direct debit process, thus saving costs associated with paper direct debit instructions and avoiding the lack of security of the existing online direct debit mandate procedure.

e-Mandates will enable consumers to issue their direct debits electronically through their trusted bank portal, using a method similar to the online iDEAL payment.

Under the partnership, Equens will be responsible for technical processing of the e-Mandates.

ING Nederland director of payments Roel Popping said: "Our customers are looking to issue direct debit mandates in a way that is easy, user-friendly and secure, and the e-Mandate service enables them to do just that – all electronically."
