Garmin International has collaborated with NXT-ID’s subsidiary FitPay to make Garmin Pay contactless payment feature available to Visa accountholders from numerous issuing banks.

Garmin’s newly launched vívoactive 3 smartwatch features Garmin Pay, which allows users to make secure contactless payments at NFC point-of-sale (POS) terminals and contactless-enabled ATMs.

Users can add their debit and credit cards to their vívoactive 3 smartwatch in the same manner as a normal digital wallet.

Garmin Pay leverages tokenisation to replace cardholder’s account information with a unique digital identifier, while Embedded Secure Element (eSE) chip technology is used within devices to enable contactless payment.

The feature is available for Visa cardholders of many banks including Bank of America, Capital One, and U.S. Bank in the US, and BonusCard, Cornérbank, ANZ and NAB internationally.

FitPay president Michael Orlando said: “Consumers want paying for things to be faster, easier and more convenient.
