FIME has secured accreditation to perform testing for the Discover Global Network Contactless Reader and the EMV C-6 specifications at its laboratory in Japan.

The addition to FIME’s testing services portfolio is expected to cater to contactless payment terminal, kernel and mobile point of sale (POS) vendors across the country.

Currently, FIME Japan has been accredited to offer testing support against EMV C-2, C-4, C-5 and C-6 contactless reader specifications. It also provides global services to support C-3 and C-7 readers, thereby aiding local vendors in meeting demands for various contactless and mobile payments.

FIME vice-president of services Stephanie El Rhomri said: “With international tourism rising and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on the horizon, players targeting this market need to support EMV contactless mobile payments for multiple global payment schemes.

“Today, FIME Japan provides the widest range of payment testing and certification services in the country and we’re committed to further expansion. Offering a broad range of certifications for EMV and the major payment schemes under one roof enables quick, cost-effective and localised support for Japanese product vendors.”

The laboratory in Japan is FIME’s fourth to receive Discover Global Network accreditation, following the establishment of its US, France and Asia testing labs.
