The Emirates ID card has passed first practical trail to be used for financial transactions, paving its way to be used as a credit card in the future.
During the demonstration, a specimen Emirates ID card was successfully used to make a "purchase transaction" at a PoS terminal, exhibiting the dual use of the card.
By connecting the national ID to the UAE’s Wages Protection System (WPS), the card can also be used to pay salaries.
In order to ensure security of transactions, the Emirates Identity Authority and Network International will offer fool-proof cardholder authentication that includes the user’s biometric details.
The latest development follow a memorandum of understanding was inked between the Emirates Identity Authority and Network International.
