Ecobank Kenya has launched two prepaid cards, namely the Ecobank Salary Prepaid Card and Ecobank Travel Prepaid Card.

The two Visa-branded cards are available for both Ecobank customers as well as non-customers, and will be instantly issued at all of Ecobank’s 29 branches across Kenya.

They have been designed to facilitate payment for business travellers, in addition to individuals, students, traders and the unbanked population.

The cards can be used for shopping, access to cash at ATMs and online purchases anywhere where Visa cards are accepted across the globe.

The prepaid cards will also allow PIN change, online access to statements, and balance check.

Ecobank Kenya managing director Ehouman Kassi said: "The prepaid card is equipped with chip technology which provides enhanced security for card users in a dynamic and competitive financial sector where the focus is on the customer."

Kassi added that the cards will be initially launched in the local currency and will have a US dollar denominated version later on.
