US-based network services and security firm Cybera has completed a new National Bankcard Service (NBS) Payment Virtual Application Network (VAN) that enables connectivity between POS and NBS payment processors.

With the new partnership, Cybera has given NBS the ability to process payment through POS systems that emit payment through serial interface. Cybera will facilitate the conversion of the serial signal emitted from the POS system into IP, allowing existing POS customers the ability to implement NBS as a payment processor.

By performing the embedded serial conversion and placing the payment traffic into a secure end-to-end segmented network, Cybera is able to reduce the scope of the customers’ Card Data Environment (CDE) improving PCI compliance.

The NBS Payment Virtual Application Network (VAN) enables connectivity between the VeriFone POS and any given payment processor. POS payments do require a serial connection, thus Cybera has developed an interface for serial-to-IP connections.

Cybera will implement a serial-to-IP application on the SCA-315, utilizing the existing VeriFone serial-to-IP cable kit to support NBS as a payment processor for the VeriFone Ruby/Sapphire point of sale.

This provides for secure connectivity between a customer’s remote site and Cybera’s cloud via the Virtual Application Network (VAN), complete with its own routing rules, firewall policies and logging.

Cybera said that the solution also maintains a highly available connection between Cybera’s cloud and NBS’s payment infrastructure.
