Nordea Bank allows customers pay bills via Facebook Messenger

Nordea Bank has teamed up with Denmark-based payment services provider Nets Group to enable its users to send invoices and pay their bills using Facebook Messenger.

The new service requires customer’s Bank-ID and mobile security PIN. Upon confirmation of their ID, customers can use the invoicing option in Facebook Messenger to pay their bills anytime and anywhere. Payment is initiated via an online dialogue with a chatbot in Facebook Messenger.

The new e-invoicing service, which is fully automated, also allows users to confirm, view or change their outstanding e-invoices in Facebook Messenger.

Nordea Bank head of consumer market services at in Norway John Sætre, said: “This is a new way for customers to pay, and if customers respond positively it will be natural for us develop this further.

“With this service, Nordea wants to make banking easier for customers. Now, they can pay their e-invoices at anytime and from anywhere, without leaving their favourite social media platform.”

Recently, PayPal launched a similar service that allows merchants to create and send invoices within Messenger and buyers to complete the transaction using the PayPal’s One Touch payment option.
