The Canadian e-commerce sector has registered a significant increase of 22.2% in online retail sales in December 2013 month-over-month, MasterCard SpendingPulse revealed.

The online share of retail sales totaled 7.8% for the month of December 2013. The growth in the Canadian e-commerce channel in the last month of 2013 represented the 54th consecutive month of positive year-over-year growth for the channel.

However, total Canadian retail growth was steady but slow, posting a meager year-over-year growth of 2.3%. According to MasterCard SpendingPulse, the price index also declined significantly due to deep promotions during the holidays.
