The Bank of Punjab (BOP) has teamed up with MasterCard to issue a debit card service to its customers.

The bank said it is the first in its native Pakistan to choose MasterCard debit issuance over 1link, the country’s largest inter-bank payment system provider.

BOP’s first branded debit card, according to the bank it presents customers with a range of benefits including global acceptance and high-level security.

The debit card will be accepted at all of MasterCard’s 36m points of sale and ATMs world-wide.

The announcement followed news from BOP of the launch of ‘BOP Solar’ a new financing scheme aimed at encouraging the use of alternative energy sources.

Available throughout Pakistan’s major cities, the scheme allows financing of up to PKR5m ($82,000) to be repaid over one to seven years.
