Barclaycard Payments and SAP is expanding their cooperation in a bid to boost payment acceptance capabilities and enhance procure-to-pay processes.

As part of the move, Barclaycard will integrate its Smartpay gateway into SAP’s Upscale commerce platform, which caters to mid-size, direct-to-consumer businesses.

The integration will enable customers of this platform to convert more business online by removing friction from the payment process while strengthening fraud defence.

The extend partnership will also see Barclaycard offering virtual card services to businesses using SAP Ariba or SAP ERP software.

Barclaycard said its virtual cards on the platform will offer SAP Ariba customers enhanced control over ad-hoc purchasing.

Additionally, it will offer extended payment terms and help users avoid late payments to their suppliers and utilise early payment discounts.

Barclaycard Payments Partnerships managing director Nicole Olbe said: “Our ever-evolving partnership with SAP is a result of listening to our customers and clients and making sure we are providing them with the tools and capabilities to thrive under challenging circumstances.”

Barclaycard partnered with SAP in 2019 to enhance B2B payments.

As part of the tie-up, Barclaycard’s B2B payment offering Precisionpay was integrated into SAP Ariba solutions.

Last year, Barclaycard payments gateway product Smartpay was made available to SAP customers across Europe.

Commenting on the latest development, SAP UK and Ireland managing director Michiel Verhoeven said: “We’ve had a successful partnership with Barclaycard for a number of years and during this time we have seen an explosion of e-commerce, with the payment market evolving as result.

“I’m proud of the strong relationship we have forged in support of our customers, who continue to challenge us to provide new ways to accept payments as well as make payments to their suppliers.”
