Banco Santander has launched the Ferrari
credit card, a new means of payment linked to the bank’s
sponsorship of the Ferrari racing team.

The credit card is the first in the world to
bear Ferrari’s racing division logo. It offers consumers a free SMS
alert service and accident and travel insurance for up to
€300,000.

“We can confirm that the appeal of this card,
apart from serving to make payments or withdraw cash, lies in its
emotional value, in its association with Ferrari and with its
values of innovation and leadership. That is what gives this card
its ‘pull’ and will lead to its highly positive sales
perspectives,” said Ignacio Narvarte, head of means of payment at
Banco Santander Spain.

The credit card was produced by Spanish card
manufacturer GyD Ibérica, a subsidiary of security technology
specialists Giesecke & Devrient (G&D). It is operated
through an EMV compliant microprocessor chip and cryptographic
technology has been incorporated to protect users from fraud.

The customised card displays the images of
Banco Santander and Ferrari and the pattern of the card resembles
carbon fibre, the same material used on the bodywork of Formula 1
racing cars.
