Amazon Pay has enabled Alexa delivery notifications capability for merchants, allowing integration of voice into e-commerce offerings.

With the new capability, sellers will be able to use Alexa to notify customers when an order has been delivered. It will also prompt any requirements to the customer.

Alexa delivery notifications feature is intended to improve customer experience. It will reduce the need for customer support with fewer service inquiries to check delivery status.

It will available via a simple API to allow faster integration.

Amazon’s original daily deal site, Woot.com, has integrated the new capability into its fulfilment pipeline. Woot.com customers will now get real-time delivery notifications on any order that is placed using Amazon Pay.

Commenting on the move, Amazon said: “It helps Alexa customers reduce the chance of delivery theft, giving them status updates without having to contact customer service.”

The company also introduced Amazon Pay Buyer ID. This helps merchants identify their Amazon Pay customers on web, mobile as well as Alexa channels.

The ID is specific to a merchant and customer. Furthermore, merchants will be able to identify return buyers to improve their shopping experience via customisation.

Amazon noted: “Regardless of channel, Amazon Pay Buyer ID allows merchants to provide buyers with a personalised and streamlined experience the moment they start their shopping journey.

“Customers will have access to their accounts including order history, preferences, wish lists, and loyalty programmes across every channel if you use Amazon Pay Buyer ID.”
