Payments platform Adyen has struck a partnership with Alipay, the payment platform operated by China’s Ant Financial.
The alliance is aimed at supporting Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.

Under the partnership, Adyen will support payments outside of mainland China for the AliExpress, Taobao, Tmall and Alibaba.com brands.
Adyen president of Asia-Pacific Warren Hayashi said: “Our solutions are created for fast-growing global giants like Alibaba who want to create a frictionless, uniform experience for their customers regardless of geography.
“We’re pleased to partner with Alipay and to be part of Alibaba’s journey as they seek to enter new markets and acquire new customers.”
Alipay head of financial institution strategic partnership, international business group, Clara Shi added: “Adyen’s products are built with fast-growing, fast-moving businesses like Alibaba in mind.

Notably, this May, a collaboration between Alipay, Adyen and Klarna enabled shoppers at AliExpress to pay for their purchases after delivery using Klarna’s Pay later option at the checkout.
