TfL confirms Oyster move to open-loop
London Mayor Boris Johnson has made the announcement that the UKs payments industry has been waiting for – Londons successful prepaid transit card system, Oyster, will move to an open-loop network in time for the city to host the Olympics in 2012.The eccentric and unpredictable Johnson made the announcement a day earlier than expected, speaking in front of the London Assembly during his monthly Mayoral Question Time.
Moneris fights back over FCAC probe
Canadian processor Moneris Solutions has hit back against claims it is flouting the payment industrys code of conduct, deeming comments to be inaccurate and misleading. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canadas (FCAC) investigation into Moneris conduct stems from complaints over notifications sent to thousands of merchants, advising them of changes to payments processing fees, due to come into effect in April 2011.

Logica and FleetCor sign fuel cards deal with Shell
Technology services company Logica and specialist payment products and services provider FleetCor Technologies have won a 10-year contract worth 300 million ($410 million) to deliver Shells Commercial Fleet fuel cards programme in Europe and Asia.
Asia positively responds to mobile payments
Asian consumers are the most enthusiastic mobile payments users, with 69 percent favouring mobile over traditional forms of payment, according to research by consulting and technology services provider Accenture.The surveyed Asian consumers were led by Chinese consumers (76 percent), India (75 percent), followed by Korea (56 percent) and Japan (47 percent).

Debit fees regs delay could cost $1bn
A postponement of the debit card swipe fee reform could cost US retailers and their customers more than $1bn per month, the National Retail Federation (NRF) warned Congress. It is claimed by the NRF that the Feds proposal to lower debit card fees does not go far enough and argues that debit transactions should be paid at close to face value as debit cards are merely plastic cheques. The Fed is said to be reviewing comments on its proposal and is required to issue a final version in April, with the rules to take effect in July.
VeriFone integrates UK taxi card payments
Gone are the days when customers searched frantically for change as London’s black cab drivers looked impatiently on as e-payments solutions provider is set to install its card payment and digital media systems in all cabs across the capital. Initially available during a pilot programme in December 2010, the system integrates with existing taxi meters to enable the acceptance of credit, debit and contactless payments.

VeriFone powers Garanti Bank’s mobile payment services
