500m mobile ticketing users by 2015 – Juniper

Half a billion people across the globe are predicted to be using their mobile phones as travel tickets on metro, subways and buses by 2015, according to a forecast by research firm Juniper Research.This prediction is over five times the number generated in 2010 and Juniper is also expecting mobile ticketing usage to spread on a much wider scale than is currently seen thanks to the momentum of near-field communication (NFC) technology.

Nonghyup back on its feet after crippling attack

The banks network, which was out of action for two days in mid-April, has now been restored although there are claims that data is still missing from some customers accounts The attack at the bank, known locally as Nonghyup or NH Bank, affected approximately 5m credit card accounts, leaving customers unable to use their cards, check their balances, make repayments or receive cash advances

Global Prepaid Exchange eyes up benefit cheats

Prepaid industry organisation Global Prepaid Exchange is urging the UK government to use prepaid technology in a bid to limit welfare payment abuse.Kevin Harrington, managing director of the Global Prepaid Exchange cites numerous damning media reports that describe benefit claimants squandering money on plastic surgery, expensive weddings and foreign holidays luxuries that those in work sometimes cannot afford.

Armenian cards issued grows 11% YOY

The Armenian Card payment system (ArcA) has announced March 2011 saw an 11.1% rise in cards issued in the country when compared to the same point the previous year.According to ARKA news agency, the number of cards issued reached 31,617 in March alone. There was a 31.3% rise in the number of ArcA branded cards issued taking its total to 11,554 and 10,218 new Visa cards were issued an increase of 35.9% from March 2010.

Vesta partners with Mexico’s Telcel

E-payments solution provider Vesta has deployed a range of payment services for Mexicos telecommunications company Telcels prepaid mobile products.Vestas technology is said to remove the requirement for Telcel customers to visit a retail point-of-sale to purchase airtime, data plans and other services.

Malaysian consumers top AP online bill payers

Over half of the internet users in six emerging e-commerce markets in Asia Pacific are going online to pay their bills with Malaysian consumers spending the most, according to the 2010 Visa e-commerce consumer monitor.Of those 3,156 surveyed from mainland China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand, 60% said they have paid their bills online in the last 12 months and 97% said they would continue to do so over the next six months.

Wells Fargo pilots Visa Smart Card programme

Financial services company Wells Fargo has chosen to pilot the Visa Smart Card a card that includes both a mag stripe and EMV technology in a bid to widen its card acceptance worldwide.The pilot is the industrys first chip programme by a national bank and includes 15,000 Wells Fargo consumer credit card customers who travel internationally.

Visa partners with Groupon Latin America

Visa has joined forces with daily deal discount website Groupon in Latin America to boost SME e-commerce in the region.Under the agreement, Visa will become the preferred payment method for online discounts on a wide variety of businesses.
