HSBC Merchant Services to give merchants more transparency on interchange

HSBC Merchant Services has told Cards International that it has added a new feature on its merchant billing service With the new service, HSBC Merchant Services provides its merchants with a list of 150-odd possible charges that they incur for accepting various cards and card schemes. It is a reaction to EU legislation surrounding transparency in interchange fees, Chris Davies, HSBC Merchant Services managing director told Cards International.

AmEx Q3 net income up 13% Y-o-Y

American Express (AmEx) has reported a net income of $1.23bn in the third quarter of fiscal 2011, 13% higher than the year-ago quarter. For the nine months to the end of September, net income amounted to $3.74bn, a 25% increase from the corresponding period a year ago. Net income from US Card Services in the third quarter rose 23% over the year-ago period to $733m, while third quarter net income from its International Card Services division soared by 53% to $221m.
