Wirecard buys prepaid card issuing business from Newcastle Building Society

UK-based Newcastle building Society (NBS) has exchanged contracts for the sale of its Pre Paid Cards business (PPC), to electronic payment solutions provider Wirecard Card Solutions. It paid 8.9m ($11.5m), with further earn-out payments estimated at 1.8m ($2.3m) for 2012 and up to 1.2m ($1.5m) for 2013 subject to achievement of financial targets

Vincento, ID Data partner for contactless payment watch

UK-based Vincento Payment Solutions has partnered with ID Data cards, a member of the TALL Group Companies, to support the launch of a new watch that can be used for contactless payments The companies said the Watch2pay gadget will be used to purchase items of up to £15 ($23) at 70,000 retail stores in the UK ID Data will supply a matched pair of cards, one containing an embedded chip in a pop-out, which will be fitted in each watch along with a fully functional Paypass companion card to meet the necessary payment regulations

MasterCard re-launches debit card portfolio

MasterCard is re-launching its debit card portfolio in the UK, offering banks premier debit products with the capacity to run sophisticated rewards and loyalty programmes. As well as standard MasterCard Debit and Maestro cards, MasterCard will also be offering Platinum and World Debit cards, which the network sees as a key differentiator in what it sees as an otherwise one-size fits all marketplace. MasterCard is launching the new suite of cards in the UK, a market in which the network currently has a very limited debit presence since 2009, when RBS and HSBC migrated their portfolios to Visa Debit.
