WorldRemit, a London-based online money transfer service, has partnered with Vodafone to launch international money transfers in Romania using the telco’s mobile payment service M-Pesa.

This alliance will allow WorldRemit customers to send instant money transfers to any Vodafone customer in Romania.

Vodafone users can then collect the funds from more than 2,000 M-Pesa agents around the country or use it directly from their mobile phone for payments such as utility bills, recharging Cartela Vodafone and buying goods at selected merchants, WorldRemit said in a statement.

Other advantages of the new service are no associated fees for using funds from the M-Pesa account for paying bills and instant notifications as soon as the transfer is confirmed.

WorldRemit added that the solution will be available for any Vodafone mobile customer in Romani but if the recipients do not have an M-Pesa account they can access the transferred funds after registration for the M-Pesa service.

Vodafone Romania director for business development Valentin Stefan said: "We offer all Vodafone customers a new service that is secure and fast at a very competitive rate. International Money Transfer through Vodafone M-Pesa is the 1st Mobile platform on the Romanian market that enables Romanians to receive money from other European countries, US and Canada with immediate and 24/7 access to funds."
