Wirecard has collaborated with Rakuten Viber and its partner NeoPay to introduce the new money transfer service, Moneytou – powered by Mastercard, for Viber users.

Viber is an instant messaging app which is said to have one billion users globally. The new peer-to-peer (P2P) payment service will allow customers to send money to each other using the app.

As part of the alliance, Wirecard will process the payment card transactions made via the Moneytou service. Libra Internet Bank has agreed to act as the local acquirer.

Wirecard noted that the transferred funds will be available in the recipient’s balance almost immediately. The funds can be used via card or withdrawn in cash.

Users will be able to link multiple cards to the Moneytou service.

The money transfer service will initially launch in Hungary, followed by a roll out across additional Eastern European markets with a target of 25 million users in the first phase.
