German payments firm Wirecard has unveiled a prototype of a Smart Mirror that will also enable one to make payments.

The mirror’s display offers customers in stores an overview of alternative sizes, colours, and matching products.

In order to pay, customers need to click on purchase and scan a QR code, thereby accelerating the checkout process.

Customers can opt to pick their purchases in stores or have them delivered at their doorstep.

Said to be the first of its type in Germany, the new offering is the product of Wirecard’s Innovation Lab.

Wirecard Labs EVP Jörn Leogrande said: “The shopping experience is made unique by the buying process on the Smart Mirror: it offers individual recommendations and the possibility to request other colours or sizes without leaving the changing room.

“This concept is not only appealing to customers, but also offers merchants many benefits from additional sales opportunities.

“One of the key features is the easy and fully digital checkout, which can be done with the customer’s own device – no need to queue or take out their credit or loyalty cards.”

The latest development comes shortly after the launch of Wirecard’s smart payment terminal that is designed to support payments through palm biometrics technology.
