Australian bank Westpac has partnered with NXT-ID subsidiary Fit Pay to expand contactless payment capabilities to new devices.
The agreement will allow Westpac customers to utilise Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable devices integrated with the FitPay Trusted Token Manager to make contactless payments at near-field communication (NFC)-enabled point-of-sale locations.
This includes Garmin Internationals’ latest smartwatches such as the vívoactive 3, vívoactive 3 Music, Forerunner 645, Forerunner 645 Music, and the fēnix 5 Plus series.
At the same time, Westpac will participate in FitPay’s Token Requester Program in order to let its customers add their payment credentials to devices integrated with FitPay’s token management solution.
The platform replaces a customer’s account data with a unique digital identifier called token to address security concerns. Customers can complete the payment process with a tap at any NFC-enabled point-of-sale terminal.
NXT-ID COO and Fit Pay president Michael Orlando said: “Westpac has a long tradition of using technology to make its customers lives easier. Extending payments to more devices gives Westpac customers greater flexibility in how they pay and helps fit how they pay more seamlessly into how they live.”
