Western Union has expanded its mobile app to Singapore.

This enables customers with iOS and Android devices in the country to make fund transfers directly into bank accounts and mobile wallets.

Customers can opt to make payments with card or account within the app. In addition they can also pay in-person at the agent locations of the firm.

Through the app, customers can also estimate fees and foreign exchange rates for online remittances. At the same time, they can track transactions using the app.

The mobile app is also available in Hong Kong as well as Malaysia.

Western Union Global Money Transfer president Odilon Almeida said: We are delighted to introduce online money transfers in Singapore. A high level of digital connectivity has offered consumers boundless possibilities to integrate mobile usage across various aspects of their daily lives.

Western Union cited a report by IFAD that ranks Singapore as the fourth largest remitter in Asia. This precedes by Hong Kong, Japan and Malaysia.

According to the report, Singapore remitted over $6.1bn in the previous year.
