UnionPay International and Turkey IS Bank have signed a cooperation agreement, which will enable acceptance of UnionPay cards at all 470,000 POS terminals of the bank.

The Turkish lender has enabled acceptance of UnionPay cards in about 7,000 ATMs and the E-visa website of Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two entities will expand cooperation by increasing UnionPay acceptance at POS terminals in the country to over 50% from 35%.

In addition, the duo will also cooperate to allow UnionPay online payment at several airlines and travel booking websites.

Meanwhile, UnionPay International CEO Cai Jianbo has unveiled plans to boost UnionPay acceptance to 80% in Turkey in a year, in order to better meet the needs of UnionPay cardholders travelling to Turkey, promote personnel exchanges between China and Turkey, as well as support exchanges between Turkey and neighbouring countries.
