UnionPay International has partnered with Cambodia MekongBank to roll out QR code payment service for its cardholders in Cambodia.

The company also plans to update its e-wallet app to support the UnionPay QR code service over the coming months. This will enable better payment option for its cardholders.

Facilitating better payment options

In addition, UnionPay signed an agreement with Cambodian payment gateway firm Bongloy. The agreement will let UnionPay introduce its online payment service in the country within the year.

Currently, UnionPay cards have coverage of more than 90% in the country, while its chip cards are said to be accepted at all terminals.

The deal with MekongBank will allow the expansion of the UnionPay QR code service to several local merchants. This will include supermarkets, restaurants and department stores.

The payment service will be facilitated via MekongBank’s e-wallet. Addition of a local UnionPay card to the QR code service will enable both domestic and international payments.
