UnionPay International has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tahiti Tourisme and Air Tahiti Nui to improve the travel payment experience of its cardholders.

The deal will lead to more local merchants accepting UnionPay cards, further expanding UnionPay’s local acceptance network.

It will also allow UnionPay cardholders to pay visa application fees via UnionPay cards.

Also, Air Tahiti Nui will update its official website to accept UnionPay cards and launch exclusive privileges for UnionPay cards.

Under the agreement, the three firms will also collaborate in joint brand promotion and marketing campaigns.

UnionPay chairman of China Ge Huayong said: “Tourism is the pillar industry of Tahiti, and efficient and convenient payment service plays an important role in promoting the sustainable development of the tourism industry. Recently, great efforts have been made by UnionPay to carry out cross-over cooperation with the tourism industry to facilitate the development of both the tourism and the payment industries.
