Australian supermarket chain Coles Group has partnered with UnionPay International to provide its customers with a new payment method.

As a result of this alliance, Coles international customers can now use UnionPay to make payments in-store, as an additional payment choice.

The use of UnionPay will be supported at Coles supermarket, Coles Express, Liquorland, Vintage Cellars and First Choice Liquor Market.

Coles Group CEO of emerging businesses George Saoud said: “Coles is always looking for ways to make life easier for customers across all backgrounds to pay with their preferred method using their card or mobile.

“UnionPay offers convenient and secure contactless payment at any of our 2,400 stores, which is now more important than ever.

“Having a UnionPay option will not only be incredibly important when travel resumes but also for those international residents who use UnionPay cards in their day to day life while in Australia.”

UnionPay serves as a payment choice for international visitors, students and international residents in Australia.

It has issued more than 8.4 billion cards around the world.
