UK bank TSB has announced it will start issuing new contactless debit cards to its customers from January to June 2014.

More than 2.2m customers from the bank will be able to use contactless cards by the end of June.

Moreover, the new contactless cards will replace TSB customers’ existing Lloyds TSB debit cards as soon as they expire in the first half of this year.

Jatin Patel, products director, TSB, says: “More and more people are using contactless technology for small purchases which is why we are proud to be rolling out contactless cards to our debit card customers over the next six months. This is an important step to ensure our customers can benefit from the latest and most convenient payment options.”

As for many other banks’ customers, TSB clients can use the technology for small transactions up to £20 by simply holding their card over one of 164,000 contactless terminals in the UK. Apart from retailers, by April 2014 the new card could be also used on the Transport for London network instead of London-wide transit card, the Oyster card.
