Travelzoo, a US-based firm that publishes deals from travel, entertainment and local businesses, has partnered with UnionPay International to introduce direct payments in China.
The partnership will remove third-party platforms and enable Travelzoo members to pay directly through a dedicated channel use UnionPay cards.
Additionally, the move makes Travelzoo’s local deals accessible to UnionPay’s users in China under the ‘UnionPay Exclusive Offer’ category.
The service will utilise location-based services (LBS) technology to offer UnionPay cardholders recommended Travelzoo deals in proximity.
Travelzoo general manager in Greater China Scott Wang said: “Travelzoo inspires people to experience the world, and a direct-payment solution is essential to enable members to enjoy irresistible offers smoothly.
“With LBS technology, high-quality offers will be presented to more UnionPay users in the future, providing a great opportunity for us to encourage more consumers to join our Travelzoo family.”
UnionPay International general manager of Product Development Sheng Jinchun said: “Travelzoo is a trusted partner to UnionPay International because of its high-quality travel and entertainment offers, produced by a most rigorous and independent review process.
“We look forward to making it easy for both UnionPay users and Travelzoo members to make purchases and experience the world.”
Last month, UnionPay International became the first international firm to secure payment systems operator (PSO) licence in Nepal.
The licence authorises UnionPay QR Code as a legal cross-border QR payment solution in the Himalayan nation.
