Transit Link has partnered with MasterCard to allow consumers make payments for transit service in Singapore through their MasterCard cards.

Commuters can use the cards to pay for transit top ups, card replacements and other services.

The new payment systems, which also includes contactless payment through MasterCard PayPass, helps in reducing the time spent for processing payments.

The cards will initially be accepted at nine Transit Link’s ticket offices including Bugis, Changi Airport, Chinatown, City Hall, Farrer Park, Lavender, Orchard, Somerset and Woodlands by mid-2014.

Transit Link further plans to add three more offices with contactless payment capabilities to the list by the end of 2015.

Transit Link CEO, Lee Yuen Hee, said they are constantly looking for ways to simplify and save time for commuters, and offering a diverse range of payment options is key to achieving this.

"This collaboration with MasterCard, a global leader in the payment industry, allows for the provision of cashless payment alternatives, giving TransitLink the opportunity to better serve the diverse needs of our modern commuters," Yuen Hee added.

MasterCard Singapore general manager, Julienne Loh, said this partnership with TransitLink is an exciting step forward in MasterCard’s push to advance cashless payments in Singapore.

"Major taxi companies in Singapore already accept MasterCard cards for payments, and now commuters can also enjoy the simplicity and convenience of using their MasterCard cards to top up their transit cards," Loh added.
